Holiday Season Food & Clothing Collection: In December we collect non-perishable food items and cash donations to support the Keene Community Kitchen. We also collect hats, mittens and scarves for local schools.

Read Aloud Program: In May we organize a "Day of Service" where a CCREA member is matched with a second grade class in Cheshire County to read a book. Presently we are working with over 45 second grade classrooms. The teachers and children welcome us into their classrooms where they are eager to share the joy of reading. The Elm City Rotary Club provides funding for a hard-cover copy of the book for each classroom that we visit. Books are purchased locally through the Toadstool Bookstores who provide us with a generous discount.

In the spring of 2024, Jory John's "The Smart Cookie" was delivered to grade 2 classrooms throughout Cheshire County.

In the spring of 2023, Cleo Wade's, "What The Road Said", was read in grade 2 classrooms throughout Cheshire County

Just a few of the thank you notes received.
   Hello Helen, Linda, & Maggie!
Our second graders wanted to send a letter to thank you for coming to read to our classrooms and giving us a lovely book to add to our collections. Please share these letters with Maggie as well. We appreciate the time and thought you put into reading to children.
Thanks again!
Heather Dean & Jackie Dinsmore

  Hi Gwen,
Thank you so much for taking time to come read to our class!
The students are constantly choosing the book, What the Road Said, for their free read time.

In the spring of 2022, Jory John's "The Good Egg" was delivered to grade 2 classrooms throughout Cheshire County.

During the Covid year's, because we were unable to visit classrooms to read, Dan Brown's "Wild Symphony" was purchased and delivered to music teachers throughout Cheshire County in the fall of 2021.
